Is Grace For Real

“How is it possible that I can get so much from God when I give Him so little?” was the question a dear friend posed to me recently.

We were discussing end-of-life matters and what truly matters in the end. This individual seemed baffled and truly amazed at the thought of GRACE, God’ GRACE. GRACE is what God offers sinful human beings (all of them) because every one of them had/have fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23), and all their efforts, even the best ones, are nothing more than filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). So God says, in essence, “No amount of your trying will make the cut because your good is not good enough (Revelation 3: 17). Therefore, I offer you my GRACE, and that is the only thing that will provide you entrance into My Kingdom (Ephesians 2: 8,9).

Interesting. Fascinating. Mind-boggling. Beyond human scrutiny and comprehension. That’s GRACE, God’s GRACE. Can you imagine God giving entry tickets into His Kingdom based on human behavior, education, power, money, connections, beauty, skill, accomplishments, personality, etc.? Then each one in heaven might be singing the Song of the Lamb and Self, “Worthy is the Lamb, and Me.” Sorry, Revelation (5:12) does not have any room for that. GRACE levels are human hierarchies and distinctions, and makes every knee bow and every tongue confess that Jesus alone is Lord (Philippians 2: 10,11)

So, dear friend, please don’t try harder, but trust more, and turn your eyes off your broken works (no matter how good you think they are), resting in the finished perfect work of the Lord Jesus. For in the end, you and I will receive so much from God for so little we have offered Him, thanks to GRACE, God’s GRACE. —
